The diamond pheasant, which is also called Lady Amherst's pheasant. Lady Amherst was the wife of Sir William Pitt Amherst, the acting governor of Bengal in the early 1800s. He was responsible for sending the first specimen of the diamond pheasant to London in 1828. Diamond pheasants are very shy birds. They rarely fly, but they run fast. In case of danger, they always run away. Diamond pheasants have a long tail and beautiful iridescent feathers. Birds feed on bamboo shoots, small insects, small ferns and some fruits.
